SAGHAR, REHMANI HAIL KASHMIRI JOURNALISTS

NISAR AHMED THOKAR(Greater Kashmir)
Islamabad, May 3: Hailing the role of Kashmiri journalists, the convener of Hurriyat Conference (M) Pakistan Chapter Mehmood Ahmed Saghar and the Chairman of Peoples’ Freedom League Muhammad Farooq Rehmani have said that the journalist-fraternity in the troubled region has suffered terribly while discharging their professional duties.

In separate statements, the duo said that it was quite alarming that more than half a dozen Kashmiri journalists were ruthlessly killed during the recent years, which, they said speaks volumes about the “so-called press freedom” and the risky environment in which people associating with media have been working in Jammu and Kashmir.
Lauding the sacrifices of media-men who were killed in Kashmir since 1989, they said that they too have unfortunately become victim of conflicting situation in the region.
Terming freedom of press as one of the fundamental rights the duo said; “ In Kashmir, severe restrictions have been imposed on print and electronic media, muzzling and manipulating media is a routine matter, even local channels have been put off the air”, they said adding the journalists face immense hardships.
